CPTM Linha 12-Safira power failure disrupts São Paulo transit

A power failure on CPTM’s Linha 12-Safira caused significant disruptions for commuters in São Paulo’s East Zone on Tuesday morning. The issue, identified at 6:53 a.m. between the Calmon Viana and Itaim Paulista stations, was reportedly caused by a short circuit in a utility pole.

Due to the failure in the overhead power lines, passengers were forced to disembark from trains and walk along the tracks during a transfer procedure between Jardim Romano and Itaim Paulista. To facilitate maintenance work, CPTM implemented single-track operations between Calmon Viana and Itaim Paulista, leading to increased intervals between trains.

Commuters reported severe delays during the morning rush hour, with some journeys taking up to 1 hour and 30 minutes for routes that typically last between 35 and 40 minutes. The Paese bus system was activated to provide supplementary transport between Itaim Paulista and Calmon Viana.
