São Paulo CPTM expands service with Linha 17 trial and Pix payment rollout

The São Paulo commuter rail operator CPTM has continued its two‑month trial of the Linha 17‑Ouro monorail, running a limited shuttle service between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays at seven of its eight stations. The trial, which began on 1 April, has seen trains increase speeds to over 50 km/h, improved door synchronization and platform information displays, and resolved early low‑speed operation issues. CPTM plans to begin full carousel operation later this month when the Washington Luís station opens and the Y‑branch to Congonhas and Washington Luís becomes operational.

In a separate initiative, CPTM started accepting Pix, Brazil’s instant‑payment system, at ten stations—including Palmeiras‑Barra Funda, Aeroporto‑Guarulhos and São Caetano—during a test phase that runs until 12 June. The trial follows earlier adoption of contactless NFC card payments and aims to evaluate performance before a possible system‑wide rollout, reflecting CPTM’s push for digital innovation in urban mobility.
