Crans‑Montana bar fire owners Moretti face new criminal charges

A fire at the Le Constellation bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans‑Montana on New Year’s Eve claimed 41 lives and injured 115 people, many of them teenagers and young adults. Prosecutors have brought the French owners, Jacques and Jessica Moretti, before a court in a 10‑hour confrontation hearing on 5‑6 June 2026. The couple now face charges of negligence homicide, serious bodily injury and fire caused by negligence, and Jessica Moretti was additionally charged with falsifying an invoice linked to the acoustic foam that ignited when candle‑spark “fontaine” sparks reached the ceiling.

Fourteen individuals are under investigation, including current and former municipal officials, after early evidence indicated a lack of fire‑safety controls at the venue since 2019. Jacques Moretti had been detained after the tragedy, released on bail of 200,000 CHF, and both owners are subject to restrictive measures. One attorney for the victims said the confrontation “is the last chance for the Morettis to tell the whole truth, which the victims need for their mourning and reconstruction.”
