Córdoba and Granada push cultural projects ahead of their Capital of Culture bids
Socialist spokesman Antonio Hurtado in Córdoba urged the city to revive three summer cinemas—Fuenseca, Delicias and Olimpia—by expropriating them and launching a municipal rehabilitation plan. He framed the initiative as a way to strengthen Córdoba’s role as the 2027 Mediterranean Capital of Culture and to create climate‑friendly cultural venues.
In Granada, Mayor Marifrán Carazo and CSIC representatives, including Pura Fernández and Emilio García, announced a revision of the city’s Bid Book for the 2031 European Capital of Culture. The new proposal groups ideas into four themes: democracy and inclusion, scientific heritage, extended creativity (linking science, art and technology), and environmental and peace initiatives, with projects such as science festivals, community labs and reduced ticket prices for the Parque de las Ciencias.
