Córdoba, Colombia records 46% drop in homicides and 26% fall in thefts in first half of 2026

The National Police reported that homicide incidents in the department of Córdoba fell from 61 in the same period of 2025 to 33 between January and June 2026, a 46% decrease. Police officials attributed the decline to strengthened surveillance, judicial investigations and territorial control carried out jointly with the Attorney General’s Office and specialized police units.

In the departmental capital, Montería, police data showed a 26% reduction in total theft reports, falling from 1,302 cases in the first half of 2025 to 958 in 2026. The drop was seen across most theft categories: personal theft (30% down), commercial theft (31% down), residential theft (10% down) and motorcycle theft (15% down). However, motor‑vehicle theft rose from six to ten cases, a 67% increase, which authorities said will be a focus for future prevention efforts. Officials said the overall improvements reflect coordinated security strategies and community reporting.
