Córdoba health institutions handle over half of newborn identity registrations

In Córdoba, Argentina, the decentralization of the Civil Registry into local health institutions has become a primary method for families to register newborns and obtain their first National Identity Document (DNI).

Data from the first seven months of the year indicates that 56% of the 8,602 birth certificates issued in the city were processed within three specific medical facilities: Maternidad Provincial Brigadier Juan Bautista Bustos, Hospital Neonatal Dr. Ramón Carrillo, and Clínica Reina Fabiola. The Maternidad Provincial handled the highest volume with 2,516 certificates, followed by the Neonatal Hospital with 1,617, and Clínica Reina Fabiola with 675.

The remaining registrations were distributed among 17 Community Participation Centers (28%) and the Central Civil Registry Office (16%). This initiative aims to guarantee the right to identity from birth by allowing administrative procedures to be completed at the site of delivery before medical discharge.
