Córdoba launches paper‑bag drive to prevent 120,000 plastic bags
On 3 July, coinciding with World Plastic‑Free Day, supermarkets across Córdoba and nearby Mendoza will distribute free paper bags made from 100 % recycled material. The campaign, called “Sacale la roja al plástico – Hoy juega la papel”, aims to keep at least 120 000 single‑use plastic bags out of streets.
Organised by the local paper firm Paper together with the Cámara de Supermercados de Córdoba (CASAC) and participating retailers such as Mami, Tadicor, Mariano Max and others, the bags are advertised as reusable, recyclable and biodegradable within five months. Director Mario Michelazzo said the paper bags “require 60 % less energy and 80 % less water than virgin paper”, highlighting the environmental benefit of the initiative.
The effort seeks to raise consumer awareness, promote circular‑economy practices and showcase the high recycling rate of Argentina’s paper industry.
