Crete forensic doctor and lawyer investigated for bribery, gold seized

Police from the Chania Security Directorate, assisted by the Special Crimes Unit (OPKE), raided the offices and homes of a forensic doctor in Chania and a local Crete lawyer. The searches uncovered computers, mobile phones and a large cache of gold, including 52 gold pounds – one a 1896 Victoria London pound – 17 gold plates, a gold‑cross with chain and related purchase receipts.

The investigation links the alleged bribery to a 2021 fatal workplace accident at a hotel in Georgiouplia, where a 37‑year‑old worker died from electrocution. Employers were convicted of homicide by negligence, and prosecutors now examine whether the forensic report used in that case was illegally influenced. The lawyer, described in police notes as a “partner” of the doctor, is accused of collaborating with the doctor to sway forensic findings in favor of defense parties in compensation lawsuits.
