Greek police seek re‑examination of ten toxicology cases linked to Crete mafia
The Greek Police Subdivision of Crime Investigation in Chania has asked judicial authorities to reopen ten cases involving the issuance of toxicology certificates that are alleged to have been provided on request as part of a criminal organization dubbed the “Mafia of Crete”.
The network is said to include active police officers, a forensic toxicology professor and a forensic pathologist who have been arrested on charges of bribery, falsified certificates and gift‑giving. They are scheduled to testify on 27 July. The investigation also revisits the 2023 death of 58‑year‑old Konstantinos Manioudakis during a police check; an initial autopsy cited natural causes, but a later report documented injuries.
Authorities claim the network carried out 357 drug transactions and 52 arms sales, generating illicit profits of more than €238,000. Additional members (around 20) have been identified and older case files are being examined for possible links to the current probe.
