Crete hosts international folk dance festival with record Turkish participation
The 3rd International Folk Dance Festival, ‘Symposium International’, is being held in Crete, featuring over 350 dancers from Greece and abroad. The event, organized by Dora Satolia, takes place in Heraklion and Chania.
A notable highlight of this year's festival is the record participation from Turkey, with more than 200 dancers attending. These participants are presenting their own traditions as well as performing Greek dances. The organizers emphasize that the festival aims to use music and dance as a universal language to foster communication and reconciliation between peoples, particularly amidst complex Greek-Turkish relations.
In addition to Greece and Turkey, dancers from Cyprus, the Netherlands, Germany, and France are participating in the celebrations.
