Crete police arrest scammers after 12-year-old victimized in jewelry theft
In Malia, Crete, a 12-year-old girl was manipulated by scammers into handing over her mother’s jewelry, valued at approximately 12,000 euros. The perpetrators contacted the child via telephone, posing as accountants and claiming her mother was at risk of imprisonment if specific instructions were not followed.
Following the scammers' directions, the girl searched her mother’s room and left the jewelry at a designated location on a main road. The fraud was discovered when the mother contacted her daughter during a work break and realized the jewelry had been given away.
The Hersonissos Police Station responded to the incident, successfully arresting the suspects and recovering the stolen items.
