Jewelry theft scam in Crete

Overview

In Malia, Crete, scammers targeted a 12-year-old girl via telephone, posing as accountants. The perpetrators claimed the girl’s mother was at risk of imprisonment to manipulate the child into handing over jewelry valued at approximately 12,000 euros.

Following the scammers’ instructions, the girl left the jewelry at a designated location on a main road. The fraud was discovered after the mother contacted her daughter during a work break. The Hersonissos Police Station responded to the incident, successfully arresting the suspects and recovering the stolen items.
