Crete police immobilize 86 vehicles after citing 656 traffic violations
Coordinated police operations across the Crete region checked 1,783 vehicles and 2,075 individuals. Inspectors recorded 656 breaches of the Road Traffic Code, including 24 seat‑belt failures, 37 alcohol‑impaired drives, 44 missing helmets, 38 speed‑limit exceedances and numerous other infractions. A total of 86 vehicles were immobilised.
In addition to traffic offences, nine separate violations led to the arrest of 16 persons for crimes such as drug‑related activity, illegal weapons possession, wildlife poaching, illegal outdoor trade, public disorder and health‑certificate fraud. Authorities indicated that the checks will continue to curb crime and strengthen public safety on the island.
