Crete retail turnover exceeds 1 billion euros in Q2 2026

Retail turnover in Crete surpassed the 1 billion euro mark during the second quarter of 2026, reaching 1.003 billion euros. This represents a 3.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025, outperforming the national average growth of 2.8% reported by the Hellenic Statistical Authority.

Within this regional growth, Chalkiadakis SA reported significant financial progress for 2025. The Cretan company, which operates in the supermarket and cash & carry sectors, saw its turnover rise to 266.23 million euros from 239.79 million euros the previous year. The company also recorded improved EBITDA of 24.60 million euros and net profits of 12.90 million euros.

Despite the growth, Chalkiadakis SA management expressed concerns regarding potential economic obstacles, including trade protectionism, geopolitical instability in the Middle East, and inflationary pressures. Specifically, the company noted that new tariffs could impact demand for Greek products and deter future investments.
