Crete: Search operation underway for missing 67-year-old surfer

A large-scale search operation is underway off the coast of Dia, Crete, to locate a missing 67-year-old windsurfer. Authorities have deployed port vessels and aerial assets to comb the maritime area.

The only significant finding so far is the man's windsurfing board, which was recovered near Dia and transported to the Central Port Authority of Heraklion. Experts note that the discovery of the board is concerning, as it is a primary safety tool that experienced athletes typically do not abandon.

CCTV footage has provided a clue regarding his last movements, showing the man heading toward the sea without his specialized gear. He was observed wearing a red shirt, which he removed before entering the water. This detail is being used by search teams to aid visibility. Despite the disappearance, local experts suggest that weather conditions and wind levels were not considered prohibitive for windsurfing at the time.
