Crete: Two Polish tourists die in separate incidents
Two separate tragedies involving Polish tourists have been reported on the island of Crete, Greece.
In one incident, an 11-year-old Polish girl died after being found unconscious in a hotel swimming pool. Witnesses, including a physiotherapist and a doctor who attempted resuscitation, alleged that the hotel staff and lifeguard were unresponsive and failed to provide necessary medical equipment like a defibrillator or resuscitation bag. The hotel lifeguard's lawyer stated that she responded to the screams and found the child already being treated by doctors. Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident.
In a second, separate incident in Rethymno, a 76-year-old Polish man died after being pulled from the sea. Authorities are conducting an investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine whether the cause of death was drowning or a medical emergency, such as a heart attack. This marks the third drowning recorded in Rethymno since the beginning of the year.
