Crew member dies aboard Argentine trawler Argenova XXII, fishing halted
A 53‑year‑old crew member from Tucumán was found dead in his cabin on the fishing vessel Argenova XXII while it was operating in Argentine waters. The ship's captain reported the death to the Argentine Naval Prefecture and immediately suspended the vessel's shrimp‑fishing activities, ordering a return to Puerto Madryn. The vessel is expected to arrive early Wednesday morning.
The deceased was a member of the Sindicato de Obreros Marítimos Unidos (SOMU). Union representatives have been notified and are assisting with the initial procedures. Authorities will conduct an investigation once the vessel reaches port to determine the cause of death.
The incident highlights safety concerns within Argentina's coastal fishing fleet and has temporarily reduced fishing effort in the area.
