Cricket milestones: Manav Suthar sets record while Joe Root surpasses Kallis
In recent Test cricket developments, Manav Suthar and Joe Root have both achieved significant career milestones.
During the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, Manav Suthar claimed 10 wickets for 131 runs, leading India to a 165-run victory. In doing so, Suthar set a new record for the best bowling figures by an Indian player against Sri Lanka in Test matches, surpassing the previous mark of 10 wickets for 153 runs held by Harbhajan Singh since 2008. Suthar achieved this feat by taking four wickets in his final 10 balls of the match.
Meanwhile, England captain Joe Root reached his 167th Test match during the Headingley Test against Pakistan. This achievement moves him past Jacques Kallis for the fifth position on the list of players with the most Test appearances, tying him with Stuart Broad. Root is now approaching several major records held by Sachin Tendulkar, including total Test runs, centuries, and matches played. Additionally, Root is within five runs of becoming the first captain to reach 3,000 runs in the World Test Championship.
