Test cricket career milestones

Recent Test cricket developments have seen multiple players achieve significant career milestones. In a match against Sri Lanka in Galle, Manav Suthar set a new record for the best bowling figures by an Indian player against Sri Lanka, taking 10 wickets for 131 runs. This performance, which included taking four wickets in his final 10 balls of the match, surpassed Harbhajan Singh’s 2008 record of 10 wickets for 153 runs and led India to a 165-run victory.

Simultaneously, England captain Joe Root has reached several historic benchmarks during the Headingley Test against Pakistan. Root surpassed Jacques Kallis for fifth place in most Test appearances, tying him with Stuart Broad at 167 matches. By scoring 66 runs in the first innings, Root reached his 68th Test half-century, equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most Test fifties.

Root also established a new record for fielding by recording his 219th Test catch, becoming the most successful non-wicketkeeper fielder in the 149-year history of Test cricket and surpassing Steven Smith. Furthermore, his 42nd innings of 50 or more while captaining places him fifth on the all-time list for captains, ahead of figures such as Clive Lloyd and Ricky Ponting. He is also approaching the milestone of becoming the first captain to reach 3,000 runs in the World Test Championship.
