Crime rates decline in Serra and Barra Mansa
Municipalities in Brazil are reporting significant decreases in crime rates. In Serra, data from the State Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense shows that robberies in public transport fell by 51.9% between January and August 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The number of robberies dropped from 267 to 129, while thefts decreased by approximately 16%.
Local authorities attribute these improvements to increased Municipal Civil Guard presence, integrated security forces, and data-driven prevention strategies such as 'Operação Coletivo Seguro'.
Similarly, Barra Mansa recorded a reduction in various crime indicators for August 2026. According to the Rio de Janeiro Institute of Public Security, violent lethality fell by 77.78%, with occurrences dropping from nine to two. Intentional homicides also saw a 75% reduction. Property crimes also declined, including a 66.67% drop in vehicle robberies and a 100% reduction in thefts occurring on public transport.
