Criminal attacks reported in Peru and Colombia

In Peru, an interregional bus operated by Cromotex was targeted in an armed robbery early Wednesday morning on the Interoceanic Highway near Abra Oquepuño, Carabaya province. Six hooded individuals armed with firearms intercepted the vehicle and fired shots into the air to intimidate passengers during the heist. Although a passenger alerted authorities, the driver and several travelers declined to file formal complaints due to fear of retaliation. Police and the Public Ministry have been notified, but initial operations have not yet located the suspects.

In Colombia, the mining company Cerrejón reported an attack on its railway infrastructure in the La Guajira region early Thursday morning. The incident occurred at kilometer 125 of the rail line. This marks the fifth attack on the company’s train lines this year. No injuries were reported, and authorities are currently inspecting the site to determine the extent of the damage. Cerrejón has called for increased security to protect strategic infrastructure, stating that such attacks threaten community safety and regional economic stability.
