Criminal incidents reported on Arco Norte highway and in Costa Rica

Two separate violent incidents were reported in Mexico and Costa Rica.

In Mexico, a security camera captured an attempted robbery on the Arco Norte highway near Sanctórum de Lázaro Cárdenas, Tlaxcala, on August 4, 2026. Assailants positioned themselves by the roadside and threw large stones and tires onto the asphalt during daylight to damage vehicles and force drivers to stop. While motorists managed to evade the obstacles without reported injuries or property damage, the incident has prompted social media concerns regarding recurring crime in that stretch of the highway.

In Costa Rica, a 36-year-old man identified by the surname Altamirano was found dead at a bus stop in Las Vueltas de Tucurrique, Jiménez de Cartago, on the night of August 7, 2026. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds. The Red Cross confirmed the death at the scene following reports from local residents. Judicial investigators are currently working to determine the motive and identify the perpetrators.
