Cristina Fernández de Kirchner appeals to UN as Buenos Aires Peronist split widens

Former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner submitted a petition to the United Nations Human Rights Committee, asking to be recognized as a victim of Argentina’s justice system. The move is part of her broader “law‑fare” strategy, arguing that the UN process is faster and less stringent, though any conclusions are non‑binding.

At the same time, a sharp intra‑Peronist conflict is unfolding in Buenos Aires Province. Governor Axel Kicillof, once a close ally, has assembled a bloc of mayors, refused to visit CFK, and is challenging her influence over the provincial Justicialist Party. Her supporters, including the La Cámpora organization and Vice Governor Verónica Magario, continue to contest Kicillof’s bid for leadership of the province’s most important electoral district.
