Argentina Supreme Court urged to strip Cristina Kirchner's lifetime pension

Prosecutor General Eduardo Casal has asked Argentina's Supreme Court to overturn a precautionary measure that reinstated former president Cristina Kirchner's widow's pension after her conviction in the Vialidad corruption case. In a 13‑page opinion, Casal argues that the Federal Social Security Court's decision conflicts with the law that imposes absolute disqualification on anyone sentenced to more than three years in prison, barring them from receiving any retirement or pension benefits. He claims the court ignored this statutory effect and created an “insurmountable” legal contradiction, also raising concerns about institutional conflict.

The petition follows a request by ANSES to cancel the pension, and the Supreme Court will decide whether the provisional restoration of the benefit should be maintained. While the widow's pension is at stake, Kirchner's special presidential pension remains suspended due to the same conviction.
