Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's legal battle escalates to UN as Kirchnerists denounce anti‑Argentine campaign

La Cámpora, led by Máximo Kirchner, released a communiqué linking the memory of Eva Perón to the imprisonment of former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, accusing the current Milei government of an “anti‑Argentine campaign” and portraying her sentencing as a price for defending popular interests. The statement draws parallels with Argentina’s pre‑Perón era, criticises the libertarian administration’s ties to Washington and the IMF, and references the IMF director’s visit to Vaca Muerta.

Kirchner’s legal team has moved to internationalise the case, filing a request before the United Nations Human Rights Committee and the Inter‑American system. They argue that the trial involved “lawfare” and procedural violations, and have enlisted jurists such as Brazilian lawyer Rafael Valim and former European Court of Human Rights judge Javier Borrego. While UN bodies lack direct enforcement power over Argentine courts, the strategy aims to secure an international pronouncement that could weaken the legitimacy of the six‑year prison sentence and lifelong political ban imposed on Kirchner.
