Cristina Kirchner faces Hotesur and Los Sauces trial by year-end

Cristina Kirchner and her son, Máximo Kirchner, are set to face an oral trial before the end of 2026 regarding the Hotesur and Los Sauces cases. The proceedings, overseen by the Tribunal Oral Federal 5, involve 17 defendants accused of money laundering and illicit association linked to business dealings with entrepreneurs such as Lázaro Báez and Cristóbal López.

In preparation for the trial, the court is working to reduce the witness list from over 300 to approximately 180–200. Former family accountant Víctor Manzanares has indicated a willingness to accept potential legal consequences for his role in the financial structures involved.

Simultaneously, the Kirchner political movement is pursuing an international legal strategy. Defense lawyers have filed a petition with the United Nations Human Rights Committee to challenge the judicial restrictions that currently prevent Cristina Kirchner from running for public office. The movement hopes for a favorable response from the UN to bolster her potential 2027 presidential candidacy.

Recent polling by Analogías suggests a highly competitive political landscape for the 2027 elections, showing a tie between the current administration and the opposition, while noting significant economic dissatisfaction among the Argentine public.
