Cristina Kirchner faces separate Hotesur and Los Sauces trials
The Argentine Federal Oral Court 5 has ordered the separation of the Hotesur and Los Sauces trials involving Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Máximo Kirchner. The court determined that while the cases share a historical context, they involve different legal objects, assets, and evidence. Separating the trials is intended to prevent excessive delays, as each case involves approximately 200 witnesses.
The Los Sauces trial, which involves allegations of illicit association and money laundering through real estate, is scheduled to begin on October 23, 2026. The Hotesur trial, which investigates alleged money laundering through hotel operations, is set to commence on March 19, 2027.
During the ongoing Cuadernos trial, new audiovisual evidence was presented, showing a 2018 raid on Cristina Kirchner’s Recoleta apartment. The footage, requested by prosecutor Fabiana León, revealed the existence of reinforced doors, including one behind the master bed leading to a dressing room. Testimony from former police official Juan Carlos Barrales and former official Claudio Uberti highlighted the apartment's alleged role in receiving illicit funds, with Uberti testifying to seeing approximately 20 suitcases in the residence.
Separately, defense lawyers for the former president have introduced new evidence claiming that companies linked to Lázaro Báez received only 0.85% to 1% of the funds from the public works trust, challenging the basis of her previous convictions.
