Croatia adopts stricter noise rules for 57 types of outdoor machines

Croatia has adopted a new regulation on noise protection for outdoor equipment, replacing a 2008 rule. The measure covers 57 categories of machines and devices, requiring each to have a measured and clearly marked noise level and a CE mark confirming compliance with EU technical and safety standards. Maximum sound‑power limits will be set for the loudest groups, and procedures for conformity assessment, labeling, technical documentation and data collection are detailed.

Health Minister Irena Hrstić emphasized that noise is a serious public‑health risk, noting World Health Organization estimates that excessive noise ranks just behind air pollution among Europe’s leading environmental health hazards. Prolonged exposure is linked to sleep disturbances, stress and higher risk of cardiovascular disease. The regulation aligns Croatia’s standards fully with EU law while aiming to protect workers on construction sites and nearby residents.
