Croatia and Bosnia adopt AI and new ballot designs for upcoming elections

In Croatia, researchers predict that by the 2028 parliamentary vote, many younger voters will rely on generative artificial‑intelligence tools to compare party platforms and receive customized recommendations. Campaigns are expected to optimise for “generative‑search engine optimisation” (GEO), allowing AI to insert party descriptions directly into AI‑generated answers, potentially reducing the need for voters to visit party websites.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, election officials have introduced a redesigned voting procedure for the October 4 parliamentary elections. Voters will receive two sheets: an informational ballot and a separate A4‑size sheet on which they must colour circles beside party names and candidate numbers with a chemical pen. The new format is aimed at improving scan reliability, though officials warn it may cause a record number of invalid votes as voters adjust to the unfamiliar layout.
