Croatia and Slovenia roll out new affordable rental housing units

In Slovenia, the municipality of Jesenice is completing construction of a new residential quarter called Partizan, which will provide 46 public rental apartments ranging from 38 to 85 square metres. The development includes underground parking and a park for local Olympians, with hand‑over slated for October.

In Croatia, the government’s affordable‑rental programme is already allocating empty private units and building new homes. About 295 units are immediately available, with another 500 expected by year‑end, and 1,300 state‑built apartments are planned for the next year. Early contracts have been signed for a 50‑square‑metre flat in Zagreb’s Trešnjevka and a family house in Dubrovnik’s Gruž, delivering significant monthly rent savings for tenants.

Both initiatives aim to increase the supply of low‑cost housing and alleviate rent pressures in their respective regions.
