Croatia Announces Heavy Traffic Fines for Serbian Tourists

Croatia has warned drivers from Serbia that traffic violations on the route to the Adriatic coast can result in fines that far exceed the cost of tolls. Speeding penalties start at €30 for exceeding the limit by up to 10 km/h and rise to over €2,000 for violations of 30 km/h or more, with possible license suspension or imprisonment. Using the emergency lane on the highway carries a €260 fine, and leaving a vehicle window open or an unlocked door while parked is penalised with €30. The fines are enforceable through 2026 and apply to all drivers traveling on Croatian roads.

The measures target Serbian motorists who often drive their own cars to Croatian holiday destinations, aiming to deter unsafe driving practices and protect road safety for both locals and tourists.
