Croatia celebrates traditional food and harvest festivals in Tijarica and Stara Plošćica
The village of Tijarica in the Trilj municipality hosted the "Dani komina" cultural and gastronomic festival over the weekend, reviving long‑forgotten dishes such as pura, raštika, and corn‑bread. The event, organized by the local association Pokrenimo Tijaricu and supported by Split‑Dalmatia County, gathered numerous folk groups from across Croatia and neighboring Bosnia‑Herzegovina. Participants demonstrated traditional cooking methods, including butter‑making and open‑fire baking, while the county prefect Blaženko Boban took part in the preparations.
On 21 May, the nearby settlement of Stara Plošćica near Bjelovar held the "Ploščićko mašinanju" festival, showcasing historic grain‑harvesting techniques on a wooden threshing floor. Hundreds of visitors watched old‑style reaping, old‑timer tractors, and horse‑drawn equipment, followed by games for children and adults. The event was endorsed by Bjelovar‑Bilogora County officials, including deputy prefect Marija Jungić, emphasizing the preservation of regional identity and cultural heritage.
