Croatia-Bosnia regional food and harvest festivals
Overview
Throughout mid-2026, a series of regional food and harvest festivals in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina highlighted local culinary and agricultural traditions.
In May, Stara Plošćica held the “Ploščićko mašinanju” festival, showcasing historic grain-harvesting methods. In July and August, gastronomic celebrations expanded. The 53rd Plum Fair in Gradačac, Bosnia, featured a Gastro Fest for plum-based desserts, where the “Grad-Art” association secured first place. In Pretetince, Croatia, Gulašfest celebrated traditional goulash, with the 2026 event scheduled for late August.
Pastry and heritage traditions were emphasized across several regions. The 28th Slatka Istra festival in Vižinada featured 215 samples of heritage recipes, such as kroštule, povetica, and fritule, prepared by 127 participants. In the Baranja region, culinary demonstrations included the preparation of “klipići” dough in Gardinovci, where specialists emphasized the necessity of specific fermentation processes. Additionally, the 29th chicken paprikaš and trganci cooking competition was held in Beli Manastir by the MKU Pelmonostor association, featuring approximately 20 cooks.
In the Dalmatian hinterland, the village of Tijarica hosted the “Dani komina” festival, reviving dishes like pura, raštika, and corn-bread through traditional open-fire baking. Supported by local and county officials, these events collectively aim to preserve regional identity, support small producers, and promote tourism through the celebration of cultural heritage.
