Croatia coach Dalić says first World Cup game versus England could make or break campaign

He highlighted that key players Luka Modrić, Mateo Kovačić and Joško Gvardiol are not at optimal fitness after injuries and limited game time, stressing the need for a fully healthy lineup.

In a separate interview Dalić discussed the tactical balance required for the England game, noting the importance of defensive solidity, speed in transition and the need to field players who are fully recovered. He mentioned that Ivan Perišić could serve as a "secret weapon" on the wing if deployed without excessive defensive duties. Both coaches underscored the pressure of facing a strong English side and the necessity of a strong start to avoid a difficult group‑stage recovery.

The match will be played in Dallas, United States, and Dalić expressed respect for England’s quality while remaining optimistic about Croatia’s chances.
