Croatia faces potential loss of WRC hosting rights after 2027

The future of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in Croatia is uncertain following a lack of written financial commitment from the Ministry of Tourism and Sport for the 2028–2030 period. Daniel Šaškin, president of the Croatia Rally organizing committee, warned that the event may be removed from the global calendar after 2027.

While preparations are underway for the 2027 event, scheduled for April 8–11, organizers have reportedly been waiting months for a defined financial framework from the government. Despite interest from the WRC promoter and the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to keep the event in Croatia, Šaškin expressed concern that the absence of state funding confirmation could end the partnership.

Economic studies from the Faculty of Economics suggest that the WRC has brought approximately 100 million euros directly to the Croatian budget since 2021, with a promotional value exceeding two billion euros through broadcasts in 165 countries. Minister of Tourism and Sport Tonči Glavina stated that negotiations regarding continued cooperation are ongoing.
