Croatia Heat Wave Prompts Polish Embassy Warning and Tourist Price Concerns

The Polish embassy in Zagreb issued an urgent alert for Polish tourists staying in Croatia from 3 – 5 August, citing red‑level heat warnings across the Istrian peninsula, Rijeka, the islands of Krk, Lošinj, Cres, Rab and Pag, and inland Dalmatia. Temperatures were expected to exceed 39 °C, with officials urging visitors to carry sunscreen, water and rely on air‑conditioning or cold showers.

At the same time, Croatia’s tourism minister Tonči Glavina and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković criticised sharp price differences between inland and coastal areas, noting that a single scoop of ice‑cream could cost up to €5 on the Adriatic coast versus €1.60 inland. The rise in prices, combined with a drop in June visitor numbers, has raised concerns for the crucial July‑August tourist season.

Both the health warning and the price dispute highlight growing challenges for Polish travelers in Croatia’s popular summer destinations.
