Croatia implements traffic safety education programs for children
Educational programs focused on traffic safety and road culture are being conducted for young children in Croatia. In Jakšić, the “Jumicar” program—a concept originating in Finland—was implemented at the “Mladost” elementary school. Through theoretical lessons and practical activities on a traffic polygon, students learned about pedestrian and cyclist behavior, the importance of reflective clothing, and how to recognize traffic signals.
In another initiative, the 31st annual “Respect Our Signs” campaign utilized games and practical exercises to teach children how to navigate crossings and recognize traffic signs. These activities involved participation from various organizations, including the Zagreb Civil Protection, the Red Cross, and local fire departments. The programs aim to increase awareness and prevent accidents, noting that last year, eight children were killed and over 700 were injured in traffic incidents.
