Croatia issues warnings on phone and investment scams targeting residents

A resident of Split reported receiving a disturbing phone call from a hidden number, in which a voice pretended to be her deceased mother and claimed to have fallen and broken a leg. The caller’s sobbing and repeated pleas caused the woman great alarm, prompting her to advise others—especially seniors—to hang up, avoid sharing personal details, and report suspicious calls to police.

Police in Vinkovci warned that fake investment offers are on the rise after an 83‑year‑old woman was defrauded by an online ad promising quick, guaranteed returns. Officers urge the public to be skeptical of advertisements promising fast profits, to verify that financial platforms are registered, and to cease communication and inform authorities if a scam is suspected.
