Croatia launches Slavonia housing scheme for young families

The Osijek‑Baranja County has started the "Naša Slavonija i Baranja – naš dom" program, planning the construction of 42 single‑family homes and three multi‑family buildings with a total of 52 apartments. Funding will come from the county budget, selected municipal contributions and co‑financing from state and EU sources. The units are intended for young families, health‑care workers, army personnel and other residents in deficit occupations, with a lease‑to‑own model lasting up to 25 years.

In Vukovar‑Srijem County, officials formally signed co‑financing agreements for 94 households, allocating €356,000 in grants for home purchases in 2025. Grants range from €2,700 to €5,300 depending on the municipality’s development level. County Prefect Ivan Bosančić said the measures will help keep young families in the area and combat depopulation. One beneficiary, single mother Maja Karabalić, remarked, "These supports are very good because they will keep young families here." The programmes aim to revitalise rural settlements and stabilize the region’s demographic trends.
