Bosnia and Herzegovina elections: Croatian leaders urge Croat voters to ensure legitimate representation
As general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina approach on Sunday, October 4, political leaders from Croatia and the European Union are issuing urgent calls for civic participation and political reform. Croatian President Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković have urged Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina to vote, emphasizing that the country's stability depends on the Croat people having legitimate representatives in the Presidency. Milanović noted that Croats have lacked such representation since 2018 and stated that protecting their rights is a constitutional obligation for Croatia.
In Mostar, HDZ BiH candidate Darijana Filipović received strong support from Plenković during a final campaign rally. Filipović has campaigned on the platform of political equality, asserting that Croats seek to be equal partners rather than having more or less than other constituent groups.
EU Special Representative Luigi Soreca also called on citizens, particularly young voters, to exercise their right to vote to secure their own future. He expressed regret that Bosnia and Herzegovina is not among the countries set to receive EU accession roadmaps next week, noting that the lack of progress contributes to citizen frustration. The elections will determine members of the Presidency, as well as representatives in various parliamentary and regional levels across the country.
