Croatia marks 35th anniversaries of Homeland War milestones

Croatia has marked several significant anniversaries related to the Homeland War. In Hrvatska Kostajnica, ceremonies were held to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the organized breakout of Croatian defenders from the besieged city. The commemoration included wreath-laying and candle-lighting at a memorial plaque, attended by officials including Sisačko-moslavački County Prefect Ivan Celjak and representatives from the Ministry of Defense.

Separately, the 35th anniversary of the formation of the 119th Brigade of the Croatian Army was observed. Commemorations included traditional wreath-laying at various memorials. In Rovinj, an exhibition was opened at the Antonio Gandusio Theater gallery to document the brigade’s founding and its first year of operations, including the history of the 'Fortunali' battalion. Brigadier Marijan Mužinić reflected on the challenges of 1991, noting the difficult transition period as the Croatian Army and state were being organized amidst widespread conflict.
