Croatia opens public consultation on draft law to implement EU machine safety regulation

The Croatian Ministry of Economy has launched a public consultation on a draft law that would transpose European Union Regulation 2023/1230 on machines into national legislation. The law sets health and safety requirements for the design, production and market placement of machines and related products, and incorporates provisions for digital technologies and artificial intelligence.

The draft establishes a national framework for enforcement, designates supervisory bodies such as the State Inspectorate’s market inspection, labour inspection and authorised testing laboratories, and introduces penalties for non‑compliance. High‑risk machines will require third‑party conformity assessment, and user instructions may be provided digitally. The provisions are set to take effect on 20 January 2027, and the consultation period remains open until 24 August.
