Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina update border crossing regulations

The Croatian government has adopted amendments to the Decree on Border Crossings, affecting 52 crossings along the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following a bilateral agreement signed in June, the changes reclassify several locations to facilitate smoother movement of passengers and goods. Specifically, nine crossings previously designated for border traffic will now serve as permanent crossings for international passenger traffic, while the number of road crossings for both passengers and goods is set to increase from 14 to 17.

In Gradiška, the old border crossing is expected to resume operations by the end of October 2026. Miroslav Janković, director of Putevi Republike Srpske, stated that the bridge is expected to function for passenger vehicles and buses, potentially with a weight limit of up to 20 tons. This reopening follows a temporary closure in May after part of the bridge's protective fence collapsed.

Additionally, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina are coordinating the construction of new joint border crossings, including Šćepan Polje–Hum and Paklice. These efforts aim to improve regional connectivity and align with European integration standards and Schengen rules.
