Croatia has officially signed the Artemis Accords, an international framework governing the peaceful exploration and use of the Moon, Mars, comets, and asteroids. The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth in Zagreb, where Radovan Fuchs, the Minister of Science, Education, and Youth, signed the agreement on behalf of the Croatian government.

Representatives in attendance included U.S. Ambassador Nicole McGraw, NASA Europe representative Gregory Mann, and Hrvoje Meštrić, Director of the Science and Technology Department. The Accords emphasize principles of transparency, mutual assistance, the sharing of scientific data, and the preservation of space heritage. The agreement does not grant ownership of celestial bodies but establishes standards for sustainable and safe space research.

The signing makes Croatia the 74th signatory of the Accords, following Albania, which recently became the 73rd. The Accords are tied to NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the lunar surface and establish a permanent presence as a precursor to future missions to Mars. An executive order signed by Donald Trump in December 2025 set a goal for NASA to return astronauts to the Moon by 2028, with plans to establish lunar base elements by 2030.
