Cybersecurity threats and AI privacy concerns rise in the region
Various security and technology-related incidents have been reported across the region. In Croatia, the Police Directorate has issued warnings regarding a phishing website, eprekrsaji.co/hr, which mimics the official e-Prekršaji system to steal personal and banking data. Additionally, citizens have been alerted to fraudulent emails impersonating police officials using non-official domains.
In the realm of artificial intelligence, Proton has launched the AI Paper Trail tool. Developed with Lumo, the tool analyzes chat histories from models like ChatGPT and Claude to reveal how much personal information—such as health, finances, and habits—can be inferred from digital footprints.
Other reported incidents include a cyberattack on the French tax administration, potentially affecting 700,000 taxpayers, and various local criminal activities such as theft, fraud during mobile phone purchases, and physical assaults. Law enforcement agencies in Montenegro and Croatia are also intensifying traffic monitoring through drones and aerial surveillance to combat violations.
