Croatia undertakes major tram, rail and highway upgrades
Zagreb’s tram network will experience a temporary suspension on Vukovara Street from 4 July to 17 August 2026 while works remodel the intersection with Savska Road. Lines 3, 5 and night line 33 will be rerouted or replaced by bus services, and line 13 will be discontinued for the period.
On the rail side, a 33‑km section of the Osijek‑Koška line is being rebuilt at a cost of €25 million, part of a broader €230 million renewal of the Varaždin‑Dalj corridor. Completion of the final segment is slated for June 2027, with further investments of €6‑7 billion planned for the national rail network and new rolling stock from domestic partner Končar.
A separate highway project aims to add a third lane to the 39‑km Zagreb‑Karlovac motorway. The €250 million extension is expected to start next year and become operational by 2029, intended to ease chronic congestion on the route.
