Croatia updates border crossing rules with Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Croatian government has implemented changes to the categorization of border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina. These amendments to the Decree on Border Crossings aim to align Croatian regulations with a new bilateral agreement signed on June 8.

The changes affect a total of 52 border crossings. Specifically, the number of permanent border crossings for international passenger traffic is increasing, while the number of crossings designated for local border traffic—used by individuals with special border passes—is decreasing. Three new crossings identified in the updated list include Svilaj (at a new location), Gornji Varoš, and Osojnik.

For travelers, the distinction between international and local border crossings is critical. International crossings are open for general international passenger traffic, whereas local crossings are restricted to those meeting specific criteria for border passes. While the network for international traffic is expanding, officials noted that reclassification does not automatically guarantee immediate availability of all services; technical, infrastructural, and organizational requirements, such as the establishment of inspection services, must be met first.
