Croatian cities receive national and European recognition

The city of Vinkovci has won first place in the medium-sized cities category of the national ecological project ‘Od izvora do mora’ (From Source to Sea) for the third time. The award, presented in Šibenik, follows a cleanup operation in the Trbušanci settlement where approximately 100 volunteers collected over seven tons of waste, including plastic, glass, paper, and large items such as tires and bulky waste.

Mayor Josip Romić stated that the prize money will be used to plant approximately 70 young trees in various city neighborhoods, including Slavija and the Radić block, to increase urban greenery. The project is a collaborative effort involving Coca-Cola, Konzum, Jutarnji list, and the Association of Cities in Croatia.

Separately, the city of Čakovec has been awarded the European Label for Good Governance (ELoGE) by the Council of Europe for the second time in four years. The recognition, presented in Zadar, validates the city's transparency, quality of administration, and responsible management of public resources. Mayor Ljerka Cividini noted that the award aligns with the city's recent unconditional audit opinion regarding its financial reports and business compliance.
