Malta film wins audience award at Split Mediterranean Film Festival

At the 19th Mediterranean Film Festival in Split, the audience voted the Maltese feature "Zejtune" by director Alex Camilleri as the best long‑film, awarding it the festival’s top prize and a cash award. Camilleri said the strong audience response was “the greatest recognition” for his work.

The French short "No Skate!" by Guila Sele captured the audience‑choice award for best short, receiving €1,000. Spanish director Alaude Ruiz de Azúe’s film "Nedjelje" won the main jury prize with a €2,000 award, praised for its subtle and emotionally precise portrayal of personal freedom versus family expectations. Additional recognitions went to the Spanish film "Maspalomas", the Croatian short "Koke" by Igor Jelinović, and a special mention for Portuguese short "O" by Francisca Alarcão.

Organisers highlighted the festival’s growth as it approaches its 20th anniversary, announcing plans for a jubilee edition scheduled for 10‑19 June 2027.
