June 2026 Balkan roundup: festivals, sports triumphs and community projects

Early June 2026 saw a series of cultural, sporting and community events across the Balkans. The Faculty of Food Technology in Osijek marked its 55th anniversary with a ceremony in the city’s cultural centre. Croatia celebrated the 18th edition of the Trash & Burn auto‑motor and rock‑abilly festival in Goričan and the 23rd Kre Mure i Drove tambura‑krajka festival in Prelog.

In Međimurje, the foster‑care association concluded a three‑year “Empowered foster parents, more successful children” project funded by the national Ministry of Labour. A school‑pet exhibition was held in Hajdučica, and the Osijek‑area music school in Tuzla reported 220 competition awards and a June concert.

Sporting highlights included the Ljubuški Outdoor Festival’s record‑breaking runs and concerts, HNK Šibenik’s announced dissolution, Cedevita Olimpija winning its 23rd Slovenian basketball championship in Novo Mesto, and Bosnian university team Bosnia clinching the national basketball title after an overtime final. Other events featured a veteran‑senior football match in Rešetari, a veterans’ game in Zasadbreg, and a quarter‑final match of the Roland Garros tennis tournament between Rafael Jodar and Alexander Zverev.

The week also hosted the Luštica Bay Sailing Cup in Montenegro, drawing about 150 sailors, and a traditional clay‑pigeon shooting competition in Breznica, Croatia, with teams from five counties.
